Contest Update
Submissions to the contest are now... closed! Sorry for the lateness and unresponsiveness; I've had other things on my mind. This week is chock full of stuff, but I'll try to get the entries judge by mid next week.
Thanks for entering - good luck!
Notice
A user recently notified me about their concerns regarding gallery submission flooding. I'm sure many of you are aware of the sheer number of submissions we get daily (50+ generally, all the way up to 100 and beyond), and it's... well, unmanageable, especially for those of us who like to keep our messages neat and tidy.
That is why I've decided to directly implement their advice; the global submission limit across the entire gallery is now two deviations per person per day. We'll see how this works out for a while, and hopefully it will allow for a little more exposure. For everyone.
I will be monitoring the situation over the next few days to see how it's working. If you have any concerns or ideas for improvement, do not be afraid to contact me via note. Thanks!

March 2012 Contest
I was going to put his up on the 15th of March, but considering the format, perhaps it's quite justifiable to give you guys a bit more writing/thinking time. 3-Month Premium Membership up for grabs, or the equivalent number of points!
TOPIC: Fear of the Unknown
PROMPT: None
FORMAT: Rhyming Short Story
PAGES: Nothing over 10 MS Word pages, Times New Roman, 12 pt.
DEADLINE: March 31st, 2012
What do I mean by a rhyming short story? Remember this poem?
"Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse."
Obviously, this is the first few lines to the famous "The Night Before Christmas"; if you haven't read it before, you can easily find the rest of it online. Either way, the rhyming short story can be a particularly difficult aspect of literature to get right, but is nonetheless one of my favourite formats. So good luck! We had some strong submissions last time; now it's time to see what the poetry side of the community can bring to the table, as well.
Also, you will notice that The Night Before Christmas has a A/A/B/B rhyming scheme. A/B/A/B is also acceptable, but each verse should be restricted to blocks of four or eight lines.
ENTERING:
When you have finished your piece, take the following steps:
1. Submit it as a deviation.
2. Submit the deviation to the "March 2012 Contest" folder.
3. Please note that no synopses will be accepted for this competition. You must grab people's attention with your opening sentences.
JUDGING:
This contest is not a community-vote contest. While all submissions will be displayed on the journal to read, the winner will be determined by the following criteria:
1. Technical skill.
2. Idea originality.
3. Characterisation (if applicable).
4. Structure.
5. The entry's Relative Brilliance Factor.
If more than 20 entries are received, some people I am in contact with may be called to help with the judging.
THE PRIZE:
1. 3-Month Premium Membership/Point equivalent
2. 1 Llama Badge (if one has not already been given by Pseudinymous)
3. A 1-month feature on TheScribblists main page
4. Any points that end up in Pseudinymous's donation pool will be given to the winner. If you have some spare points lying around, even very small contributions would be appreciated!
The contest is open! Good luck!

JUNE CONTEST RESULTS!
RESULTS!
So, after about six solid straight hours of reading and deliberating your entries, I've finally come to a (very strangled) conclusion. As I was watching the entries come though last month I already realised this would be an extremely difficult one to pick, as many of you are fantastic well-rounded writers in your own right. I never expected the quality of so many of these stories to be so good, so give yourself a pat on the back for making my life as a contest judge horribly difficult. ;P
In the end I came to three standouts, who on the whole each did a marvelous job. I couldn't possibly demote any to third place (which has no prize
Feb Contest Closed! Winners and Voting for Crowd
Aaaand, the winners have been decided! Incidentally, we seem to have had a record number of people totally ignoring/misunderstanding the requirements of this contest and as a result, we have only had three qualifying entrants. ^^; Either way, congratulations to the following people! :w00t: The three of you deserve a great pat on the back, it was a lovely display of poetry all-round.

Genre Specific Folders for Fiction/Poetry
EDIT:
Okay, with the removal of those folders, all work assigned to them has been automatically removed from the group, and if your work has been affected you will need to resubmit to one of the relevant new folders. All are fully active and ready to receive submissions from members.
I will reiterate, since there may be an initial flood of resubmissions you may wish to hold off submitting your work over the next few days, so we can stagger this out and help improve visibility of submitted work. I'm also putting the cut-off at 2 per folder per day for the next week, just to help this staggering along. The cut-off will be removed afterwards, h
VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE. Also, I'm still alive.
Quick edit: Contests will take a while longer to figure out. I suffered a pretty decent concussion earlier this week and this... well yeah, kind of put a stopper in things. I'm okay now, but yeah, it wasn't just some pointless delay because I couldn't be bothered or anything.
Just letting you know. :)

Yes, yes I know. You have the right to hit me right now, because that level of carelessness is hardly acceptable. Anyhow, let's get some things done around here, eh? Here are the orders of business:

Make the submissions once a day (I am myself an active deviant but still) and I like the competition and the style (I write in that but I dunno if I will be able to do so for this competition)
