Slight Writing Obsession...
Aaaand, the winners have been decided! Incidentally, we seem to have had a record number of people totally ignoring/misunderstanding the requirements of this contest and as a result, we have only had three qualifying entrants. ^^; Either way, congratulations to the following people! :w00t: The three of you deserve a great pat on the back, it was a lovely display of poetry all-round.

Now that the main part of the contest is over, it's time to vote for the crowd favourite. Tell me which of the above three in your comments is your favourite, and the entry with the most overall votes will receive the secret crowd-favourite prize!

Thanks everyone for participating and once again congrats! I hope you enjoy your prizes!

EXTENSION/LAST REMINDER
Hello people, due to a) my swearing that the contest folder was open to the public when it was not, b) my late last reminder that the competition was coming up, and c) my silly notion that there was a 29th of February this year, the contest has been extended until the 11:59PM (GMT) on the 5th of March. Please have your submissions in by then!

Peace, love and other various happy things,
- Pseudo

Greetings chaps! Firstly a quick advert for those who may be interested: The 27th Southern California Writers' Conference is on from February 15 - 18, and some of you may be within a good proximity and will want to attend. For more info, please visit [link]. You have ~AmandaDaire to thank for alerting me to its existence. :)

---~ FEBRUARY CONTEST: TYPOGRAPHIC HAIKU ~---

Here's something a bit more interesting than usual. The goal of this contest is to create a series of three haiku, presented visually as one typographic picture. You will be judged on a number of criteria, and the highest scoring participants will win.

Now, I know many of you aren't graphically or artistically inclined, which is why in this contest you're allowed to enter as a team of two: one must write the haikus, the other must implement it in typographical form. If you wish, of course, you may enter without a partner, and the prize need not be split between two people should you win. :) Here's a run-down of the contest.

Deadline:
February 28, 11:59PM GMT

Form:
Three haikus. They can rhyme or flow however you like, however clever usage of the syllable limits for each line will garner extra points. Think about what you're writing and how it sounds. All three haikus must be contained within the same picture!

Prompt:
Absolutely none!

Number of Participants Per Entry:
1 or 2.

Number of Times a Person Can Enter:
Just 1!

Judging Criteria:
:bulletgreen: Is it in the correct form?
:bulletgreen: Is the subject matter unique or unusual?
:bulletgreen: Does the poetry flow?
:bulletgreen: Overall talent (writing).

:bulletyellow: Is the poetry visually presented in a graphically interesting or clever way? How relevant is it to the poetry?
:bulletyellow: Has time and effort obviously been invested in creating the visual aspect of this work?
:bulletyellow: Is the graphic free of mistakes?
:bulletyellow: Overall talent (graphics).

PRIZES! (if the entry contains two participants, these will be split between the partners)
1st Place: 6-Month Premium Membership (or point-value equivalent)
2nd Place: 400 points.
3rd Place: 100 points.
Crowd Favourite: A Surprise Gift!

I know this is a bit of an odd way of doing things, but I'm interested to see what people are going to come up with. Just so we're 100% solid about what I'm looking for, use the following as an example. Yours can be as stark or complicated as you like, but as I said before, those with obvious amount of time and effort will garner higher scores.

Feel free to find a buddy to do this contest with in the comments below, or to seek them out from outside the club. To submit, please add your work to the FEB 2013 CONTEST folder, which will be open for submission shortly. If you created the work with another person, please leave a comment about who it was in the deviation description. :)

Good luck, all!

Allow me to, first of all, describe my situation:

I'm taking four years of higher education, which will then be followed by Uni. At the end of the third year of this school I am supposed to have completed a project of independent work which will then be graded.
These projects can range from a variety of topics and can be scientific papers, reports, paintings, musicals and much much more.
I decided to write a novel.
If anyone is interested in a plot set in a science-fiction universe with an electropunk theme, I would like to hear some feedback on what I've written so far.

Thank you

This is an amazing group! have you got any room for a YJ fanfic writer who includes her OC's?

Seems like a lovely group so far, and the guide that I've already run into was pleasant and helpful to read. I don't write terribly much but when I do I always feel a bit starved for helpful critique (though I have at least one person who has kindly agreed to look over what I send them). I have an instinctive feel for general grammar but I don't know all the technicalities - as the parenthesis above probably show! I don't quite know what to do with them. :XD:

Anyways, I'm thinking of joining. I do wonder, though, how many submissions do you get on a daily/weekly basis? I like reading other peoples' writing but I will feel bad if I am swamped and find myself simply deleting a whole folder on occasion, when I myself am looking for critique. ^^;

...The first section of that comment seems to say that what I'm looking for is only grammar corrections, when my intention was the opposite. Whoops. My main concern is that I'm always wondering whether what I write makes sense and is enjoyable, in addition to technicalities. :XD:

Hi, I'm looking to become more involved with the dA literary community. If anyone would like free, but thorough feedback on the first chapter of their novel, please note me. If your interested, my profile has my qualifications.

Only people who have had little to no feedback already. A maximum of five comments, but preferably less than that.
